The End of Chapter 20

1/10/2013

Ugh. Still sick.

Jessica your make up test is on my desk. Please take care of this. We only have 12 days after Tuesday to change things.

Gabriel, and Adam please go get the COW from the library. They should be expecting you. Please let me know in the comments if that was not possible.

Okay. 13 of you must take the test in class today!

I am going to ask Ms. Everett. I'm linking a copy here. Worse comes to worse you can pull it up on the overhead, and write answers on a sheet of paper.

No exceptions.

Everyone else should work on your research paper. Don't forget the discussion board for posting your second research homework. Get cracking! This paper is due Monday, January 20th.

Chapter 17 will be available today.

Homework is the following Free Response Question. Due MONDAY.

Chapter 20 Review

Make sure your Free Response question about active and passive solar are in your folder.

Spend the first 20 minutes finishing e-learn, or your notes for Chapter 20.

Then the last 20 minutes is the review game for Chapter 20:

http://quizlet.com/15046060/chapter-20-vocabulary-flash-cards/

Start with flash-cards, then you can space race...or whatever you prefer. Remember, if you have not finished the test by class time Friday, you will be taking it in class. Make sure to get it submitted.

Your homework is to research two other forms of sustainable energy, and post your summaries and URLs on Classjump. Pay attention to the Rubric for sources. The more reputable, less biased, and print-based sources will get you more points! In other words, you can get more points for taking something from your book, than from the Internet, because we know the credentials of the textbook writers.

Research Paper Specifics

Your assignment is to write a five page original research paper on the form of sustainable energy you think is most likely to replace nonrenewable energy.

I will be using technology to check the originality of your work. If a report shows copied material, I will return it to you, and you will penalized for lateness when you turn it again. Do it right the first time! Academic honesty is expected.

Standard MLA format includes:

Typed
Double-spaced
1 inch margins
12 point font

You are required to have at least 3 sources:

One of them must be print.
One of them needs to be a primary source.

Here's the rubric I will use to score your paper.

Notice that there is a title page and bibliography. These are not part of the page count.

The paper grade will be a project grade.

Homework research requirements will be daily grades, and need to include summaries of what was read along with the URL's.

I will start a discussion on Class Jump and you can add these things where everyone can see them, or email is fine if you prefer privacy.

There are lists of online library resources right by the classroom front door. You may want to snap a quick pic...I will tomorrow if I recall.

Good luck.

Solar Power

Good morning! If you are reading this then you have made it!

8:45-9:00 Good job Kevin and Vivel!

Start the day with the quiz for Chapter 20. Email me that quiz. If you can not get the computers, then it is fine to do it as a class. If you must work from the overhead, only write the answers for the first 10 and turn in.

9:00-9:20
Return to your Open Space Groups. Share information and links on two forms of sustainable energy. You can add them to the blog under comments.

9:20-9:40
Click here ---> Answer the following Free Response Question on a sheet of paper and turn in to the teacher.

Times corrected. Yay! Stephanie!!

Homework: Use this online calculator to find out how many solar panels and batteries would be needed to fuel your home.
