SCAVENGER HUNT LOCATION #1

There is a copy of our book The Beak of the Finch by Jonathon Weiner and a journal hidden at this location. Please post if you find it first!

Your GPS coordinates are: Latitude 34.313287, Longitude 56.162109

This is very close to home. Don't forget to document your visit...you should investigate the yield of 1700 seeds...how many plants? What kind of visitors? Pictures, drawings, notes...remember to share.

  2. I stopped by the field last night to see if Paloma picked up the journal I left as well as the book. Two of the installation artists were moving between the rows in the blue-black light.

Robert and Cynthia? or Courtney? (we girls forgot to introduce ourselves) were so excited to hear about your scavenger hunt. She noted that the flowers were all looking down now as they were heavy with seeds.

One week ago, you may have noticed every flower faced the same direction. I'm pretty sure it was Northeast like our morning sun that seems to pop up to the right of Reunion Tower. Check my facts. My heart began to race. Would the till the field when the flowers were spent?

    Gasp!

That's when she told me, "The plan is to leave the field and watch what happens."

Oh my goodness, this is an Environmental Science Dream! My students can witness what happens in this ecosystem over time, a concept known as succession. What will happen when the seeds drop? Will the field be inundated by birds? Squirrels? People? Will old flowers fertilize new ones? Will new flowers arrive this season or next? What plants will appear after the sunflowers???
